How to Start a Microschool in New York (2026)

The short version

In New York, a microschool usually operates as a private school or a program serving homeschooling families. NY nonpublic schools must show 'substantial equivalency' of instruction (Part 130), reviewed by the local district; multiple pathways (accreditation, Regents registration, IB, approved assessments). New York does not currently run a statewide ESA or voucher a microschool can bill, so you operate as a private school and families pay privately (or via any federal option once live).
